WEST HALLAM VILLAGE PRE-SCHOOL

A BIT OF HISTORY ………

West Hallam Village Pre-School began as a Playgroup in 1967 in the rambling old rectory.  Pat Gregory and Norma Futers got together with some likeminded people who had teaching, nursery nurse or nursing qualifications and planned the organisation.  They were registered for 18 children and the fees were three shillings and sixpence (17p)!

After 3 years, the house was due to be demolished, and the Playgroup was offered accommodation in the football pavilion.  Whilst it was far from ideal, it served its purpose until the School moved out of the Village Hall, at this point Playgroup was keen to move in and it increased its sessions.

The Playgroup evolved in response to changing needs and is now called West Hallam Village Pre-School.

In January 2018 the Pre-School had the opportunity to move into premises within Scargill School but remain as a separate business.  We now have a fantastic space to run the Pre-School from with plenty of room and wonderful facilities to enhance the children’s learning through play.

At West Hallam Village Pre-school, we are committed to providing high quality Early years provision and practise. We

endeavour to celebrate all our achievements together, as a Pre-school, each person being valued and respected.

Our aims are:

  • To provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment which supports the growth of independence and a love of learning.
  • To value and develop a close partnership with families to facilitate close links to children’s learning and well being between home, Pre-school and the wider community.
  • To embrace diversity and treat everyone equally ensuring individual needs are met.

Our intention is that the lives of all who leave our Pre-School will have been enhanced by their experience with us, and that each child will leave with the motivation and ability to continue their learning and be ready to meet whatever challenges lie ahead.
